Subject: Huzzah for 3rd place!
Subject: Huzzah for 3rd place!
Fascinating training film for Buick salespeople outlying a strategy of adding/subtracting/multiplying OR dividing costs into buying a car. It really is somewhat goofy, because it's pretty much saying the same thing right? It's strategy like this, the narrator says, that put Buick into third place! And we intend to stay there! Gee, don't break your back too much by trying to do more.
Oh, and yes, surprise of the year comes when George C. Scott comes on (during the multiplying segment). Fascinating seeing him as a joe-looking-for-work actor here.
Highly reccomended!

This Buick Training Film has two things going for it...besides seeing George C. Scott (One of my all-time favorite actors !).
1. The spokesman here for Buick is Alan Bunce. From the Golden Age Of Radio & TV he starred with Peg Lynch in the Radio & TV versions of a cute comedy series titled "Ethel & Albert"...he also had a nice career in Films. So it's nice to see him here. He has that "next door" neighbor-style that made "Ethel & Albert" a success.
2. 1955 was a FANTASTIC year for the automotive Industry ! The new overhead-valve Chevy's were out; the '55 Ford's were very cool; the new Chrysler lineup was also stunning.
BUT, Buick with it's redesigned lineup, its smooth Dynaflow tranny, full coil spring ride, and, its higher-power "nailhead" V8...COULD be purchased for just a small amount more than the low-priced competition...and Buick proved that as 1955 was one of its GREATEST year's of all-time !
Buick salesmen must have really paid attention to this training film as Buick set a new sales record producing 781,000 cars and jumping into 3rd Place for 1955 !

This is a training film for Buick car salesmen on how to sell the slightly higher priced Buick.
The car in the studio is a 1955 Buick Special, so I assume this film was made in late 1954 or early to mid 1955 when it would have been the current model year.
Actor George C. Scott is in this film from 7:53-9:19 playing a customer who gets talked into buying. Four stars because of George.
